We are going through an unprecedented time of change with regards to research funding. The onset of the Global Challenges Research Fund and huge increase in Newton Fund investment has initiated a drive to more challenge led research, which presents the community with its own challenges in terms of addressing ODA compliance and delivering research in partnership with developing countries. Alongside this the newly announced Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, the creation of UKRI, and Brexit, means we are approaching new territory with regards to the research funding landscape. The Funders’ Forum will give delegates the opportunity to ask questions of representatives of the major funders using a Question Time-style approach discussion. Delegates will be offered opportunities to raise questions in advance of the panel session and on the day, from the floor. Questions will be welcome on any topic, although there will be a specific focus on strategic initiatives including the GCRF and ODA research. Come prepared to engage in discussion and debate, and make the most of this rare opportunity shape funders’ own thinking as well as developing your own.

Key Learning Points:

From attending this session delegates will;

  • Gain a far better understanding of strategic initiatives and best practice from expert colleagues.
  • Be aware of the most common issues with regards to proposals that funders are currently seeing.
  • Gain knowledge with regards to funders approach to initiatives such as the GCRF and Newton Fund.
