Sustainability

Harrogate Convention Centre places sustainability at the core of everything it does. They are committed to best-practice across all operations, from staff, clients, suppliers and visitors, and go beyond just meeting regulations to constantly improve with a methodical sustainability framework. Key initiatives include water-saving features in their new Studios (rainwater harvested via a sedum roof for flushing toilets), highly efficient heating systems reducing ~1,400 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions annually, and LED lighting across event spaces and car parks, achieving up to 80% energy savings. Their waste strategy emphasises compostable, plant-based materials for catering, recycling over 90% of event waste, and installing clear branded stations for sorting liquids, glass, mixed recyclables and general waste. They source food locally to support regional producers, and align their environmental goals with North Yorkshire’s net carbon reduction targets for 2030, as well as Visit North Yorkshire’s responsible tourism strategy.
