Therina Theron is Senior Director: Research and Innovation at Stellenbosch University (SU) since 2008. She holds a PhD from SU, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Sussex University (UK). Her research management career started at UCT in 2004. Over the past 14 years she was involved in research-related strategic planning, policy formulation and implementation, as well as the establishment and development of effective research and innovation support systems. She served three terms as member of the SARIMA Executive Committee, one of which was as Vice-President (Capacity Development). Her continued interest in the professionalization of Research Management in Africa has led to her spearheading the Strengthening of Research Management (StoRM) grant proposal. She currently leads the StoRM project consortium in developing new professional training opportunities for research managers and administrators in SADC. In the past Therina served as Director on the board of Research-Professional (Africa), and Vice-Chair of the Board of WINETech (Wine Industry Network for Expertise and Technology). She also serves as a member of the Social and Business Ethics Committee of SU’s Council.
