Ups and Downs of Research Support
Please note: this session is a PechaKucha and is booked with ‘Facilitating a Centre/Departmental Research Strategy’ as a block.
A light-hearted look at the ups and downs of providing pre-award research support.
Starting with the panic associated with short lead times for complex calls. How to regroup, plan, and help to build consortia. Tackling due diligence issues – what to deal with now and what happens post-award. Management of peer review for interdisciplinary, multi-institutional projects. Last minute applications – do we support them? Can we say no? Deadline countdown and post 4pm blues on submission day. Review period dramas – playing ping pong with the Research Councils and dealing with responses to staggered reviewer comments. Finally, success or failure – what lessons can be learnt from both scenarios?
