Avoiding Burnout – Saying the same thing to the same people
This workshop will look to explore how best to avoid fatigue in both researchers and research support staff – taking a case study approach. the goal is to look at strategies to overcome burnout when promoting specific funding types.
Specifically we will look at recurring funding schemes (e.g. Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships) and discuss how support staff can remain motivated to promote and support applications – particularly in the light of lowering success rates.
We will also look at the effect that Support approaches can have on researchers when multiple related calls are issued – for this we will explore GCRF collaborative calls where a relatively small group of staff are repeatedly asked/expected to engage.
The session will ask how to mitigate pressures from the university on support staff to repeatedly deliver whilst also examining the role we play in mediating between the ‘top’ and the ‘bottom’.
This session will involve a gamed approach with people in small groups adopting different roles and each trying to win from their own perspective.
