Zoe is an Interdisciplinary Research Development Officer at Lancaster University working across faculties in order to maximise Lancaster’s interdisciplinary research portfolio. Previously, Zoe was a Research Development Officer in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Lancaster. She has taught on a variety of undergraduate courses in the Department of English and Creative Writing and been a researcher on a British Academy funded project. In the past, she has worked in marketing and public relations, as a news journalist for the national press and in education. Zoe’s hobbies include reading, skiing and (reluctant) running.

Cultures of Multi-disciplinarity: Catalysing, developing and supporting research that spans disciplines

The drive for multidisciplinary research (MDR) is of increasing importance across the research landscape, with funding applications, REF and Public Engagement all giving special consideration to research that spans academic disciplines. However, achieving a vibrant multidisciplinary environment is challenging with cultural, structural and logistical barriers that must be surmounted in order to build effective collaborations.
