Dr Turner was appointed Director of Midlands Innovation, which includes the universities of Aston, Birmingham, Leicester, Loughborough, Nottingham and Warwick, in 2015. She came to the position from a successful career as Director of the Midlands Energy Consortium where, most recently, she played a key role in the successful £60m bid to establish the Midlands Energy Research Accelerator.
Despite an extensive literature exploring the costs and benefits of Academic-Industry research consortia; and intra/inter-institutional collaboration through block-funded research centres, little attention has been paid to understanding the drivers behind and ongoing performance management of voluntary, formally-constituted, cross-institutional, collaborations within academia.
