Gijs has been the International Relations Officer at Ghent since 2009, where he joined following completion of his PhD in Classics at Leuven. As part of his portfolio he has responsibility for managing Gent’s contribution to the U4 Consortium – a strategic partnership between Ghent University (BE), University of Göttingen (DE), University of Groningen (NL), and Uppsala University (SE).
Despite an extensive literature exploring the costs and benefits of Academic-Industry research consortia; and intra/inter-institutional collaboration through block-funded research centres, little attention has been paid to understanding the drivers behind and ongoing performance management of voluntary, formally-constituted, cross-institutional, collaborations within academia.
