Science and Grants Manager, Babraham Institute: June 2013-Present

Duties include:

  • responsibility for submissions to UK research funding bodies, providing support and advice to applicants throughout pre-award including budgeting, internal committee review and approval, review of application content, compliance checks and submission
  • collaborations with researchers to prepare applications for 2017-2022 BBSRC Institute Strategic Programme Funding Grants
  • collaboration with Institute Management to write a grant for Core Capability funding from the BBSRC to fund the operational activities underpinning the science programmes
  • collation of information and reporting on grants and research outcomes
  • Chair of Computer Strategy Committee and membership of Graduate and Athena SWAN committees to provide insight on how Institute policies impact on research activities
  • membership of the Science Policy Committee to oversee the scientific direction of Institute research
  • development of workflows and standard operating procedures for internal grant processes
  • provision of strategic advice to the Director regarding Institute science and research activities

Establishing a new Research Office

In an increasingly competitive funding landscape dedicated support for research staff is fundamental to maximise successful outcomes. In 2013 the Babraham Institute recruited two experienced Grants Managers to establish and run a Research Office, providing expert advice and project management throughout proposal development with the aim of increasing the number of applications submitted, improving success
