Chris has led the Grants team within Sheffield Hallam University’s Research and Innovation Office since June 2015, supporting the University’s research community in applying for research grant funding and promoting internal collaboration. In addition to line management, Chris’s responsibilities include providing researcher training sessions aimed at increasing the quality of grant applications and encouraging research activity, coordinating large scale grant applications and contributing to the implementation of the University’s Research Management System. Chris has nearly 10 years’ experience supporting grant applications and awards in the Charity and HEI sectors. He has worked in a variety of roles in Research Support, starting out as a Grants Administrator at the Imperial College Joint Research Office and later becoming Grants Manager for the School of Public Health and Respiratory Medicine, where he provided pre and post award support for a large international portfolio of research grants and contracts.
Effective research funding support requires a multi-faceted approach and a skill set that includes; financial awareness, the ability to interpret and communicate often complex information, and customer service skills.
