Charles Shannon is the Compliance advisor at EMBL and is also a Director of Research Grants Consulting and Services (RGCS), He has extensive experience in grants management and strategy obtained in his experience at EMBL and Cambridge University. He specialises in ensuring that funded organisations comply with sponsors terms and conditions and that the policies, procedures, systems and controls were robust and updated. Charles has extensive operational knowledge of financial management and administration of research grants, including a. costing applications b. overhead recovery c. budget allocation d. reporting e. audit preparation He also has significant experience in dealing with funders including EC Framework Programmes (FP6, FP7, Horizon2020), EC INTERREG, EC Asia Link, Research Councils United Kingdom, Wellcome Trust, Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, The Royal Society, and the US National Institute of Health and Innovate UK to name a few. He is a member of the Association of Research Managers and Administrators (ARMA) and is the champion of the special interest group on audit and compliance and is also represents all SIGs on the Membership Services Committee. In his spare time Charles coaches and enjoys watching rugby.
