A graduate of the University of London, Richard had a brief career as a research biochemist at the University of Bristol before moving into research management. Since then he has worked as an Education Officer at the Institute of Biology and as a Programme Manager at the UK Research Councils. At UWE he has led the development of the University’s research support services during a period of substantial growth and now heads up a university-wide Research Administration and Graduate School Office of some 40 staff. Richard is a long serving member of ARMA, and RAGNet before it, and has presented at a number of ARMA and Association of University Administrators (AUA) conferences. He participated in the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) International Research Management Benchmarking Programme in 2005. He has a particular interest in the professional identify of research managers and is a regular contributor to the Leadership Foundation programme for Research Managers.
