Research funders are increasingly engaging in measures to ‘manage demand’ for funding, In addition, grant application success rates are continuing to fall.  As a result, Universities are implementing processes to drive up the quality of their research grant applications.  One of these measures is strengthening internal peer review.  This session will present the experiences we have had at Brunel University London in relation to the enhancement of internal peer review.  In particular, we will discuss how we piloted a system to improve funding success rates and subsequently used those experiences to develop a new cross University internal peer review system and Peer Review College.  The session will take the format of a presentation, with opportunities for small group discussion to enable attendees to share their experiences of internal peer review.  By the end of the session we will aim to identify some of key success factors that can help to deliver best practice for internal peer review.
