8th Jun 2016

Room: Churchill

This session will explore the construction and management of international consortia created in order to submit a proposal to European funders. The presentation will be based on two recent case studies which the presenter has been involved in: ArcInTex ETN, a winning bid to H2020-MSCA-ITN, and Textile Pasts and Futures, a proposal submitted to HERA’s Uses of the Past call. These case studies were chosen in order to illustrate key points in the successful assembly and ongoing management of consortia up to the moment of submission, but they will also be referenced to highlight some typical problems encountered when trying to complete international submissions with multiple partners. The session will include an introduction to key features of the calls themselves, outline the consortia partners’ backgrounds, their reasons for engagement and individual strengths, as well as explaining how the bid writing process itself was negotiated and successfully concluded. There will also be an opportunity for questions from the floor and discussion between audience members around the points raised. The session will provide a snapshot of international consortium practice in the 2010s for those new to bid support, whilst also offering tips for research support staff with more experience in this area.
